RELEASE DATE: January 10th
It’s got an out there name, but it’s an out-of-this-world album.
Fresh out of the New Year, the recently ranked USA’s top 100 trio, Hot Pink Delorean, drops their debut album, The Revenge Of Sisyphus!. The album is a wonderful showcase of what the Bostonian Trio is capable of, flaunting a mixture of techno, progressive, and electro-house sounds. Although twelve tracks were revealed before the official release of the album, the seven additional tracks summate a blissful volume of nearly two hours worth of club-moving content.
The Revenge of Sisyphus! is a huge assortment of tracks, but given a few listens each track really comes into its own. The track “Muppet Bar Fight” is a high-intensity assault that pumps out some hardcore synth any electrohead will consider joyful ear candy. Other electro bangers such as “Move It” and “If Y’all” in collaboration with Rory Lyons show off some catchy breakbeat and energetic rhythm that not only impress, but also show just how far HPD’s talent extends.
Although some people aren’t into the more tranquil sounds found in techno and progressive, this is where the album really shines with excellent vocal chops heard on tracks like “All You Ever Need” and “I Surrender” alongside tantalizing old-school rhythm heard on “Strangers”. Many of these tracks have a very poppy, simplistic sound, but the overall outcome is very satisfying. Some songs like “Zero” even have an almost minimal resonance. All things considered, to me, the top track on the album is “Blew Steal” which does an incredible job of mashing together nearly all of the sounds that HPD is known for: starting off with a trumpet-infused progressive introduction, followed by a techno-bop rise, and climaxing with a mixture of both.
For being a lengthy debut album, The Revenge Of Sisyphus! is a well-rounded, matured piece of work that gives Hot Pink Delorean’s top 100 honor justice. The full album was also released with a complete mix of all the songs which makes the album even more delightful as it does sound even better as a whole.
